I have purchased this ultra quiet barebone system form Maplin. The barebone system was not so barebone as it came with 3.06GHz Pentium4 CPU, 1 GB of RAM, KWorld DVB-T 210 Hybrid Analogue and Digital TV Tuner Card, and Wireless Network Card.

I have purchased 1TB SATA2 hard drive, which is significantly larger then manufacturer and Maplin recommendations. But by installing Unbuntu 8.10 I had overcome the problem as Ubuntu recognised and fully utilised all installed hardware. I have recycled one my old DVD±RW(DL) Optical Drive by installing into this media server, as well as one of my old Hauppauge WinTV cards.

So far I have managed to watch DVDs, live TV, listen FM radio and browse Internet, read emails and make video phone calls via Skype. As this Media Centre PC features IR remote control and RF keyboard with trackball, it is definitely what we need for our family computational and entertainment needs.

To control whole multimedia side of the PC I have chose to install MythTV, which utilises the remote control and front panel display.

As I was running low on my main PC hard drive space down as well as my old P3 home server box, I have decided to order my first home NAS because my IT director just recently ordered ICY BOX NAS4220,which I had a good look at at the office. When the box arrived, I had upgraded firmware to the latest one, which allows me to install other applications like MC, SSH, streamripper etc. I have installed some of them and set myself on quest to install subversion. This is what I have been doing all nights for last couple of days. I have managed to installed old version, but I was not able to compile the latest one yet. I am writing the web interface to manage SVN repositories and users just now.

Watch this space I will post my package here.
